A community space for artists by artists

Born out of necessity, the CLASH [Chicago’s Level Above Secret Hideaway] was built to provide more opportunities for the plethora of live performance artists in Chicago. Featuring a flexible 50 - 60 seat stage, audiences can catch a wide array of shows. From improv & sketch comedy, to a dramatic play, or even an experimental dance troupe - anything is possible with a little imagination & a DIY mentality.

The CLASH is also a community space for people to learn, grow and collaborate. If you have a pitch for a show, a Workshop idea, or need a spot for gathering friends, check out our CONTACT page.

  • Xander Gifford(he/him) hails from Ukiah, CA where he started performing and taking improv classes at the age of 10, discovering his true passion for make-em-ups. As soon as he could, he moved to Chicago to infiltrate the scene. After forming a troupe with the first people he met, Grease, Wind, & Fire, they decided to make their mark. Landing at Clash on Clark over a year ago, he has co-produced our longest running house show, Funderdome, and became technical director of the space. He now lives out his final days on an island off the coast of Aruba. May God have mercy on his soul.

  • Justin Conrad Franzen(he/him) comes from Denver, CO and is a creative that prefers improv/sketch comedy as their outlet. Starting at a young age in the back of bars, he has had the fortunate experience of spending his adult life in comedy. Over the past decade he has had the pleasure of opening multiple spaces in Denver and is excited to be opening his first space in Chicago. Conrad would like to take this moment to thank his cats for ignoring him throughout this entire process.
