What is clowning? While you may think of clown as something only found in the circus, scary movies, or children’s birthday parties, it’s taken a serious root in both the theatrical and alt-comedy circuits, and Chicago’s clown community is getting more and more popular. Clowning is a style of comedy that focuses on audience connection, personal experience, physicality, and play. Even if you have no intention of becoming a clown, clown training can give improvisers, stand-up comedians, actors, burlesque performers, drag queens, and any other performer a set of unique skills and experiences that will improve their craft, specifically when it comes to stage presence, comedic timing, and connection.

The Clash on Clark is the only theater in Chicago that is proud to offer four levels of theatrical and comedic clown training. In four 6-week classes, you’ll be well-versed in clown technique and theory and ready to produce your own clown show. There will be plenty of performance opportunities, and you’ll be welcomed into Chicago’s growing clown community with open arms.

These classes are perfect for both experienced and inexperienced performers. Each class will offer individual feedback, and there will be a student showcase at the end of each level.
