This six week course will explore various techniques and approaches to clown in order to let performers access a state of play and physical freedom. There is not one definition or approach to clown, and this class offers a broad foundation that students can use to start to develop their own approach to the work. Using an array of methodologies, students will explore concepts such as audience rapport, red nose work, point of focus, problem solving, and status. As the course progresses, these techniques will be applied towards developing performances pieces that students will share with the class. In addition to practical in person exercises, videos and other resources will be provided to further explore the art of clowning. By the end of the course, students will have a deeper personal understanding on how to access their own natural sense of play and subsequently the wider world of clown.
